Strength in Practice Diversity

ONS Special Interest Groups Connect Members by Specialties

[By Seth Eisenberg, RN, OCN®, Contributing Editor]

Special interest groups (SIGs) have been an integral part of the ONS structure since 1989. Born out of the desire to provide smaller, structured groups for areas of specialization, SIGs fulfill particular needs for ONS’s diverse membership.

When Pamela Kennedy, RN, BSN, OCN®, coordinator of the Clinical Trials Nurse (CTN) SIG, first attended that SIG’s annual meeting at an ONS Congress, “Immediately I knew this would be exactly what I needed to foster growth and promote excellence within my practice.”

For Mei R. Fu, PhD, RN, ACNS-BC, coordinator of the Lymphedema Management (LYM) SIG, it was her interest in research. “My mentor at the University of Missouri introduced me to the LYM SIG. Joining meant finding a home for my research quest while achieving a sense of belonging.”
