Personal electronic devices such as phones and iPods can cause noise related hearing loss if abused. If the volume control is set to maximal or near maximal levels the output exceeds safe noise levels. For example, if the volume is set to 80% maximum, after 20 minutes the noise exposure will represent significant risk. To protect against noise damage, the volume control should be kept to 50% of maximum and time of use limited.
